Birding in southern Africa is becoming more popular year by year, causing establishments involved in tourism reacting to this market.

BirdsConTour (birds conservation and tourism) contributes to this development by offering Bird & Birder Friendly Awards. These awards are handed to establishments that cater in one or other way birdlife and birding tourism.
Gorges Lodge near Victoria Falls is the second lodge that got rewarded with such an award, a two penguin-rated Bird & Birder Friendly Award.

Over quite some time, the lodge management supports especially Verreauxs’ Eagle in their struggle of survival and combining this project with an activity they offer to their guests – viewing of eagle feeding.
During a recent visit with a group of guests, Gorges Lodge was recognised as a bird & birder friendly establishment.
