One of the best things about being involved in the
“BirdsConTour for a cleaner Bird Habitat” project is the constant feed of good
feedback from freelance helpers regarding bird conservation matters.
But today seemed to overshadow the cleaning activity of
Namibia’s best known Sociable Weaver nest of the 11th of May this
year. BirdsConTour together with a group of visitors freed the nest in the
Okaukuejo Restcamp, Etosha NP., from thread, ropes and other dangerous rubbish
and dead birds that hang entangled in thread out of the nest. Today, not even
three months later, another Sociable Weaver bird was found dead by being
entangled in thread that the birds collected in the camp and used as nesting
material.
Again the BirdsConTour for a cleaner Bird Habitat project
and guests took action to clear this and another nest in the camp from
dangerous rubbish and to remove the dead bird.
