363 | Owl watch on Onjala Lodge

CONSERVATION

In an effort to help the owls on the Onjala Lodge, BirdsConTour together with Mrs. Birgit Leicher and Mr. Peter Pack put up a nest box for a Barn Owl near the lodge infrastructure.
As predators, owls play an important role in controlling mice, rats and rabbits, which can become pests. In their hunting process, owls tend to select those easiest to catch - slower, weaker, or diseased - thus maintaining a healthy prey population.
BirdsConTour reports in articles 332 and 345.
