A complicated task is launched – to link people’s livelihoods to natural resources, with the objective of conserving birds and associated habitat.

Bird conservation depends on sustainable livelihoods – and vice versa. Linking bird conservation and people means to engender support for conservation among people, by involving them in sustainable management projects and practices. By providing benefits the involvement in protection matters can be triggered.

The purpose of the BirdsConTour Bird & Birder Friendly Habitat project is to develop the capacity of people to create and manage bird and birder friendly habitats in order to enhance the status of the sites, while simultaneously enhancing the people’s livelihoods through sustainable and economically viable income-generating activities.
